Will baptism of fire hurt rookies?

Langer was left with little choice but to field largely inexperienced sides in both England and Zimbabwe. And there were to be no miracle upsets, with rookies — such as Jhye Richardson and Short — putting in admirable performances at best, but not match-winning ones. With a lack of experienced players available to prop up the side’s juniors, the latter’s shortcomings have been magnified, leaving them vulnerable to an axing at the first opportunity.
Langer admitted after the tri-series that the ‘balance’ in the side has been wrong, and changes will be made.“Usually you have eight of those (experienced) players and a couple of younger players,” Langer said.“We’ve probably got three experienced players (Finch, Maxwell and Andrew Tye) and eight very inexperienced players.“The balance isn’t quite right at the moment and hopefully moving forward we’ll get that balance back as we usually have in the Australian cricket team.”
